In Review: Passion Pit at The Vic
I wrote this review too many times and tried to get too clever with it. So I cut it all and decided to let the photos speak about the experience of the show.
That being said, here are two things worth pointing out from that night. First, it’s an amazing sight to see a clearly drunk frat guy explode with excitement, punching his girlfriend's shoulder screaming “THIS IS THE BEST SONG” when “Eyes as Candles” starts up. Then, as “Moth’s Wings” begins, he turns and screams directly into her face “THIS IS THE SECOND BEST SONG!” I’m glad for him, it wasn't the demographic I was expecting, but clearly he had a great time. I hope his girlfriend did too. And second, after always wondering how someone could ever sing as high as Michael Angelakos does, it was very vindicating to hear him have to drop one verse down an octave, then, in between songs, talk about how terrible his allergies are because of the pollen in Chicago. Don’t you see guys? He’s mortal just like us! Keep an eye out for him when he returns to Chicago and don’t hesitate to buy tickets! His two shows here sold out completely fairly quickly. Anyways, Passion Pit gets my seal of approval, who knows what they will do with it.
