The Happy Fits at Wicker Park Fest

If you're looking for music that's sure to put you in a good mood, The New Jersey based band The Happy Fits have got you covered.

The Happy Fits consist of Calvin Langman (cello/vocals), Ross Monteith (guitar/vocals), and Luke Davis (drums/vocals). Despite only having three members, the band creates a really full sound through trading off lead vocals and harmony parts. What makes the band stand out from the current indie rock scene is their unique mix of cello, guitar, and drums. Though this may seem like a hard instrumental mix to pull off in a live or even recorded setting, The Happy Fits do it in a seemingly effortless way.

One of my favorite songs by the band is called “Moving.” My first time hearing it was at their Beat Kitchen show last year, and the harmonies in it instantly had me hooked (specifically the bridge of the song where they sing “darlin you’re moving, baby please don't go”). You can listen to this song and more on our “Tour Features” playlist on Spotify.

My most recent time seeing the Happy Fits was when they headlined Wicker Park Fest on July 23rd. They packed the festival, and everyone in the crowd looked like they were having a great time. Before their set started, I went around to fans in the audience and asked what it is that they like about the Happy Fits. Here are the responses:

  • “Their music is just always a blast to hear”

  • “There’s a lot of emotion in their songs”

  • “Mix of their type of music is just something you wouldn’t expect”

  • “Been to a few of their shows and we’ve just always had fun”

  • “I’ve seen them twice in concert. The second time I saw them they opened and it was one of the best nights of my life. They’re such sweet guys.”

  • “They’re always super fun, really good energy. My dad found them, it's a whole family thing.”

  • “I have their music on repeat, specifically their song “So Alright, Cool, Whatever” and seeing them perform live is truly a memory I’ll never forget.”

The Happy Fits have a new album coming out on August 26th, and just based on the singles alone I can tell it's going to be a great record. They'll also be back in Chicago at the Metro on November 19th for their Under the Shade of Green tour

So in the words of the Happy Fits, you should listen to their music because:

“We have cello, we’re a three piece, and we all sing.” - Luke

“We hope it's good and please listen to it.” - Ross

“We think It’ll make you happy.” - Calvin
